I sat down today and set a goal for myself and my business. I felt that it was time to set a realistic and attainable marker or else I would continue to chase my tail in all different directions. My goal for www.asoneclothing.com is to reach online sales of $500 a month by July 1st, 2008. At our current prices that will put me somewhere around 25 t-shirts in a four week period. You may be asking yourself at this point, why after being online for a little more than a year have I yet to realize sales of at least $500 a month? Good question, I have several explanations but no excuses.
First off my online marketing campaigns have been erratic at best, I often generate a somewhat intelligent idea but in the end fail to capitalize on the return. Secondly I spend a larger portion of my time concentrating on product sourcing and development. This obviously is something that I should have and will do differently in the future. I created the idea and dove in head first, I do not regret this decision and have treated it as a first hand learning experience. However in the future I will definitely spend a greater amount of time researching and developing the product until everything is as good as I believe it can get before launch. Thirdly I have spent to much energy racing in different directions when it comes to creating a need for the product. This was partly necessary due to the fact that I was and still am largely responsible for all aspects of the this company’s success and development, however I now see that it is important that I organize and manage the time allocated for each in a more efficient manner. Thankfully I now have some outside help on the wholesale side of things and although that may only help me tackle on small area of the retail world, I am perfectly happy with growing at a slow pace. In fact I embrace it. What I need to do now is concentrate a large portion of my own energy focusing on the growth of one aspect of sales at a time and I truly believe that success will fall into place.
So how do I plan to increase online sales to $500 a month by July 1st. I will be launching a very viral grass-roots marketing campaign. The idea will be covered in full as I develop it and it’s success or failure will be charted in regular updates and future posts. I plan to spend very little money (for lack of it) putting in some good old fashion hard work. Business will still continue to exist as usual however I will focus on becoming more organized in my approach to making this campaign a success. Wish me luck and stay tuned for frequent updates, four months from now I will be at the $500 a month mark!
As promised here is a chart of my progress.
